Both my dogs and cats are confined to the backyard. And it is entirely possible to catproof your fenced yard so your cats can't get out. Took a lot of work, but we did it. Didn't cost that much, either. So now my cats get the best of both worlds, they get to go out and roam in the grass, etc., but they are confined to my yard where they are safe. My dogs are confined to my back yard for THEIR protection. I would be terrified for their safety if they got loose. Because of people. It appears KORS, if it can sustain its current trajectory, can easily beat the 9.8% implied growth rate from the DCF calculation. Conversely, RL will need to adjust its business model to attain its implied valuation. 2. Comparable Store Sales Analyzing comparable store sales will help us determine if growth is attained through store count expansion or through additional demand. Higher comparable store sales show that each store is generating more revenue, which is much more sustainable for growth. Michael Kors has achieved very high samestore sales growth, while Coach and Ralph Lauren are lagging. By analyzing the number of stores each retailer has, it is clear that KORS is expanding the most, increasing its store count significantly. This trend will likely continue as KORS' cashflow from operations increases (223% increase in CFO since 2011). In 2013, RL's revenues increased only 2.9% due to the closing of 867 stores and a 3% increase in comparable store sales. If this trend continues, RL will eventually experience negative topline growth. Similarly, COH is shutting down its stores, though growth is primarily driven through internet sales.

3. dollar, heavy QE in Japan, and the (since February) depreciating Euro, international exposure, despite larger markets, will hurt revenues. Michael Kors, in 2013, only generated 6.1% of its sales from Europe and 1.3% in Japan. Ralph Lauren generates 37% of its revenues outside of North America, which makes it much more susceptible to currency shocks. Specifically, 21% of sales are from Europe, and 12% from Asia. Coach is even more susceptible to currency shocks, with 48% of sales coming from international regions, particularly China and Japan. Coach's first quarter 2013 earnings showed a 40% increase in sales in China. However, currency exposures may give Coach a boost as the Yuan appreciates against the USD. Finally, Estee Lauder generates 37% of its sales from Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and 21% from Asia. Similar to RL, EL may be hit hard with the depreciating Euro and appreciating USD. Thus, KORS, which has the least international exposure, will likely be less affected by currency shocks. RL and EL will suffer from the depreciating Euro, while COH may gain due to the appreciating Yuan.

Vuitton is planning big things for San Francisco, not to mention an array of themed sports gear, watches, clothing and, of course, luggage. "The America's Cup is the richest sporting event, in my opinion," he said. "And to do it in a city like San Francisco, with the spectators close to the boats, with fast catamarans, it will be quite a show." Though he now lives in Brittany, he's in Cascais, Portugal, this week for the inaugural America's Cup racing series (which began Saturday and continues through next Sunday). But he'll soon be back in the Bay Area, which is fast becoming like a second home. His sister owns the international fashion chain Agns B., which had a Union Square store a few years back, and visits regularly as he helps forge plans for Vuitton's involvement in the Cup. On his signature red linen pants: "There is a tradition here in Brittany, on the Atlantic, for sailors to wear red pants. It is colorful and more fun than a navy blue suit. It is perfect with a navy blazer. Mine are made by my friend in Italy. I have been wearing red pants for many years."

At this time the brass sounds a little lighter than usual, though very much on target. The counterpoint from the other instruments stood out splendidly, perhaps as a result. String intonation is always a challenge for younger ensembles. On Tuesday, however, the violins were together, nowhere more happily than when they started climbing with the second theme ("Elsa's motif") and accurately soared to the high notes. Conductor Linn Weeda opted for the ending from the version played in the opera a short chord that would lead into a chorale rather than the sustained final chord of the more familiar concert version. It was unexpected, but not out of place. Weeda next led the group in the last two movements of Alaska composer Philip Munger's "Sinfonietta," composed in memory of Gordon Wright, who died in Feb. 2007 and whom both men count among their musical mentors. Composer Philip Munger: "Sinfonietta" a tribute to the late Gordon Wright It was only the second performance of the movements, though Weeda said he'd originally performed an early version of the second movement, "Lamentations," in an arrangement for brass trio.

successful and was voted the most popular line in the Advertising Hall of Fame . Coined words, puns, jingles and even madeup words (like Louis Vuitton's "Epileather") are also ways to make a tagline stick. Simply being easy to remember isn't enough. Taglines should also build positive brand perceptions through imparting good feelings. Evocative vocabulary is one powerful way to create meaning. Since slogans are made for shorter running advertising campaigns, it is important that they stay relevant to their target market. Taglines, on the other hand, should not strive to be trendy at the risk of sounding dated after a few years. Since a good tagline stands the test of time, it should work across a variety of mediums, functioning like a thread that unifies the stories together. Consistency is crucial: numerous taglines and continual changes confuse consumers and dilute brand equity. H Block, a leading taxpreparation company, flipped between the slogans "America's tax team," "Just plain smart," and its current "Get it Right" in just a few years. The fragmentation risks leaving consumers unable.

and motivating taglines call the audience to take action. What makes a good tagline or slogan? Good taglines are first and foremost differentiating. In a sea of similar offerings, consumers notice brands that stand out, and creative taglines help brands differentiate from competitors. Apple's brand rejuvenation in 1997 is one example: to counter flagging sales and a tarnished image, it launched a revolutionary advertising campaign. Its new tagline, "Think Different" was a refreshing spin on IBM's "Think." Rather than trying to compete with the reputation for reliability and trustworthiness of its chief competitor, Apple positioned itself as a dynamic brand with inventive alternatives to the status quo. Meters/bonwe, China's leading casual clothesline brand, uses the line "p8," which roughly translates to "Not walking the conventional road." Mercedes Benz uses "Engineered like no other car in the world." Both taglines work wonders for these companies because they suggest a benefit to consumers who buy their products. Successful taglines not only draw attention.

Under the scheme, Clarridge would insert an agent into Karzai palace to collect his beard trimmings and then would run drug tests on them. He dropped the plan when it became obvious that the Obama administration had no intention of pushing Karzai from power. Working the phones late at night from his home in the San Diego suburbs, Clarridge maintained a network of spies who were gathering information on Taliban groups such as the Haqqani network. Through a Pentagon contract overseen by Lockheed Martin, Clarridge and his team were paid $22 million for their work and filed of intelligence reports to military commanders in Afghanistan. however, there is no silver bullet to take out Rexam's traditional foes: all year, the falling dollar, rising energy costs and increasing commodity prices have been sniping at the company's bottom line. But these pressures, surely, were already built into the share price. The stock had fallen 14 per cent between the start of October and Wednesday's close. Why would it tumble a further 16 per cent yesterday on what looked at first glance like minor adjustments to the outlook? Blame the gloomy mood of the market ready to punish even comparatively small amendments to expectations. Most analysts had already discounted a difficult 2007, but they may not have expected 2008 to open under the shadow of higher freight and raw material costs, however wellhedged. As a company, Rexam continues to pour on capital expenditure 300m ($612m) this year, and the same amount next. As a board, directors showed their confidence yesterday by buying the shares at their knockdown price/earnings ratio of between 11 and 12 times forecast earnings for 2008. The shares ought to be attractive to other investors but, for the moment.

Technology is the enabler, said Christopher Bailey, chief creative officer at Burberry. "This gives them an opportunity to feel that energy and feel the attitude of what you're working on. I find it incredibly liberating." In the last few years, fashion has gradually opened itself up to ordinary shoppers. Bloggers have sidled into shows alongside fashion editors, the TV show "Project Runway" has made design seem doable, and Fashion's Night Out has brought designers into stores to meet shoppers. But never before have Fashion Week designers so aggressively appealed directly to consumers with their shows, in large part because technology makes it so easy but also because economic conditions make this round of runway shows so important. The luxury shoppers that Fashion Week designers go after all but disappeared during the recession, not only because rich consumers' investments plummeted but also because it was unseemly to buy expensive items in a sober time. Now, though, they appear to be buying again. Herms International said last month that its profit rose 55.2 percent in the first half compared with a year earlier.

In France, business is fraught with diplomacy and politics. what counts is profits.'' When the Socialists switched to a more conservative economic course in 1983, Arnault returned to France. Back home, he persuaded the government to sell him the bankrupt Willot textile empire at a bargain price. The hodgepodge of losers ranged from retail stores to a diaper company. What Arnault wanted most was couturier Christian Dior, which he considered the group's overlooked gem. Reorganizing the company, Arnault fired more than 8,000 employees including 90 at headquarters. ''All they did was go out to lunch and spend money,'' he says. He sold off much of the revamped textile business in 1987 for more than $200 million and concentrated on Dior. Arnault is cool to subordinates. One manager finally screwed up the courage to ask the boss to lunch after working for him for several years. ''Really?'' replied Arnault. ''Do we have anything to say to each other?'' Slim and elegant, graced with long, delicate fingers, he once dreamed of being a concert pianist. He continues to practice religiously.
